What this website collects
This website uses Google Analytics to see which pages get read. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as the pages you visit, how you arrived (for example, from a search engine or a link), the type of device and browser you use, and your approximate location (country or city, worked out from your IP address). Google Analytics does not store your full IP address.
Our hosting provider (Netlify) and DNS provider (Cloudflare) process standard request logs, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver and protect the site.
We use this information only to understand and improve the website. We don't use it to identify you or to advertise to you, and we don't sell it. Google may also use it as described in Google's own policy, How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Cookies and your choice
Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID. They last up to two years.
If you're in the European Economic Area (which includes the European Union) or the United Kingdom, we ask before using these cookies, and analytics stays off unless you agree. You can change your choice at any time with the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
Everywhere else, Google Analytics runs without asking. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics keeps the detailed information for two months, its standard setting, then deletes it. The summary reports built from it, which don't identify anyone, are kept longer. Netlify and Cloudflare keep request logs under their own policies. We keep emails for as long as we need them to help you.
Who processes it
Google (analytics), Netlify (hosting) and Cloudflare (DNS and security) process this information for us. They may process it outside your country, including in the United States.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to send. We use it only to reply to you and do not sell or share it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email privacy@getlesschaos.com and we'll reply within the time the law requires. If you're in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we use analytics cookies only with your consent, and we handle request logs and emails on the basis of our legitimate interest in running this website and answering you.
Children
This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above.
